Big Green Monster But

One of my kids' favorite books is Go Away, Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley. (You can find it in hardback for under $11 on Amazon.) Our own copy of this book has been replaced twice, and the current version has the cover ripped off from little hands eager to read.

Levi is so in love with this book, he spends hours drawing the monster, trying to perfect all the features. He creates masks and sings songs about it, too.

Recently, Levi even crafted his own Big Green Monster book! I love how artistic and creative this kid is. It's not a new thing for him to make books. However, he typically makes several dinosaur drawings, and then asks for help stapling them together in a makeshift pamphlet. So this was the first actual story he attempted.

Levi was adamant about doing all the pages alone. The only part he asked for help was stapling. The result was awesome!

Minus one page... Because everyone needs an editor.

One of his pages read "and a big scary green but" instead of "and a big scary green FACE, but..." Seriously, I couldn't help but laugh. I had a moment of immaturity, and my husband joined in. But Levi did not.

He was outraged we would laugh at his error. Rightfully so. He worked so hard, and it was an honest mistake. Plus, he is SIX YEARS OLD. At this point, the inappropriate giggles got the best of me and I was laughing simply because I should not be laughing. Oh, how to stop?!

Friends, this is just a part of parenthood. (Really life in general.) Sometimes we laugh when we should not, and cry when we should be laughing. Thankfully, no permanent damage was done.

I will let you know, we did console our son. Once we all calmed down, Levi read The Page, and started laughing as well. He fixed it by smashing the letters "fes" in between "green" and "but". I think it makes it perfect. Maybe I should send a recommendation for an edit to Mr. Ed Emberley?
